South Coast  folk Society sponsors the monthly barn dance each 3rd Saturday of the month (Sept through May), at  Greenacres Grange Hall - 93393 Greenacres Lane

We feature live music ~ the bands always play an assortment of hard-drivin' American and/or Celtic jigs and reels. A caller usually holds a beginner's workshop for the first 15-20 minutes of the dance, and then teaches a walk-through of each dance before folks dance it with the music, with the caller then prompting the moves.

Contra dancing is a traditional, community dance style originating in the New England area a few hundred years ago. It is still being done in many communities across the country today.

The best way to learn about contra dancing is to do it -- hope you can join in the merriment!
