Coos Volunteer Portal Part 1

Welcome to Coos Historical & Maritime Museum Info Page

Website: http://www.cooshistory.org/

The Coos County Historical Society was founded in November of 1891 and is one of the oldest continuously operating local historical societies in the state of Oregon. The Society operated a museum for ten years in Coquille prior to moving to our current North Bend location in 1958. You will find the Coos Historical and Maritime Museum just off Highway 101 in North Bend, Oregon at the north end of town near Simpson Park and the Visitor Information Center.

Members can be proud of our accomplishments in the past year. Visitor numbers are steadily climbing! Our 3-year-old school program ahs brown to serve every 4th and 5th grade class in Coos County. Our new "Timeline and Topography" lobby exhibit greets visitors with a fascinating relief map and 20-foot-long photo-collage.   New exhibit topics have included shipbuilding, natural disasters, the evolution of county medical services, and our musical heritage (including a performance by the Old Time Fiddlers).  More and more enthusiastic volunteers - including several community college classes - are deeply involved in photo and negative digitization and writing descriptions for our computerized catalogue. It's a busy place!
